SAP has been a key partner and trusted technology advisor for the NHL since 2014, driving the NHL's digital transformation. Together, SAP and the NHL have enhanced both the in-game and behind-the-scenes operations of hockey through real-time stats, data insights, and innovative tools that serve Clubs and fans alike.
For over eleven years, SAP and the NHL have co-innovated cutting-edge technologies that enhance the sport of hockey such as the NHL Venue Metrics platform.
NHL Venue Metrics
NHL Venue Metrics was built on SAP BTP, specifically using SAP HANA Cloud and SAP Analytics Cloud, to seamlessly integrate and extend the NHL's applications for sustainability reporting. The platform is available to all 32 Clubs, providing arenas access to insights such as year-over-year analysis of utility consumption trends, League averages, and comparisons between like-market venues, and more.
NHL Venue Metrics consists of three main components:
Data Collection
An interface platform between the Clubs and their venue partners enables them to share relevant resource consumption and environmental data with the League.
Data Calculation and Validation
The processing and verification engine allows the League to track data consistency and identify reporting errors and calculation formulas to create the League's carbon inventory.
Data Reporting and Insights
A visualization dashboard showcases relevant environmental, consumption, and financial insights at both the enterprise level and Club level of the various metrics that would inform the known carbon impacts of the NHL.
Together, SAP and the NHL have developed technological advancements, including the SAP-NHL Coaching Insights App for iPad to bring real-time data and insights onto NHL benches, the SAP-NHL Front Office App to help general managers and hockey operations departments operate more efficiently in roster planning, salary cap management, and contract negotiations NHL Venue Metrics to support the League's sustainability efforts, and a reimagined NHL Edge advanced stats section on NHL.com.
